"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." -Picasso

Authentic, fulfilling expression comes from giving ourselves permission to be who and how we are in the moment, to accept what's present within ourselves as it is, and to express it. Using art as a mirror for life, this class will use the practice of painting to teach you how to expand your ability to be allowing in your self-expression… and have fun doing it!

Participants will learn a variety of warms ups and basic techniques to get their creative process started. From there, the class focuses on assisting you to trust and follow your creativity and open to the discovery of what wants to come from you.

This class is for painters of ALL levels - from those who have never picked up a brush to those who have painted for years.  All that is required is your desire to express yourself more fully and willingness to try.

This class is for you if you want to...

*Open, enjoy, and develop your creative expression.

*Empower yourself through learning how to turn towards and move with what usually blocks you.

*Discover what's within you beyond the censor.

HERE'S WHAT PARTICIPANTS
HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS CLASS:

"Robin's art class really helped me uncover and get in touch with the hidden truth in my artistic expression...in all it's various forms. I've come to enjoy the process of creating rather than being completely focused on the outcome. At this point I simply cannot seem to stop painting!" -R.R.

"This class has been so amazing for me. I've been through a very tough period in my life and this art class has taught me how to open up to an expression I never knew existed within me! I went from a self-proclaimed "no-talent" to someone who cannot stop painting! I love what comes out of me because its part of my soul on canvas. I can't say enough about Robin, she has been such a light. I love, love, love this class! I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a new avenue of self-expression or anyone who just loves to paint." -Shannon Doyle (self-proclaimed art junkie!)

:: Materials ::

First off, you do NOT need to go to the store and spend a lot of money on supplies.  If you already own some of these things, great – then perhaps just get a few other things that make you excited about art.  If you do not own any painting supplies, begin simply.  Get a few things, use them, see what you like, get ideas from what other people in class have, and get more as you're inspired to do so.  Good places to get supplies are Michael's, Blick's, and University Art.

1-If you don't already own paint, Reeves has a box of 24 basic colors in 1oz tubes. Any acrylic paint kit with at least this many color will work well. This will allow you to find out which colors you use and like before purchasing larger and more expensive tubes of paint.

2-If there are colors you know you'll want more of, like white, black, or red, go ahead and get a larger tube of them.

3-If there are other things like glitter or iridescent paint, get it!  It's fun to see fun things in your art bag:)

4-Watercolor paper: Get the larger pad of paper, at least 11x13 or 18x24.  These are great b/c if you feel intimidated by using a canvas they are an easy thing to "ruin."

5-Brushes: There is a package of small brushes with blue handles that are pretty good to start with.  Otherwise get the loose brushes but don't spend more than $2 each until you decide what you like.

6-1-3 canvases or canvas boards.  Try out 8 x 10 and larger unless you feel drawn to the small ones.

7-Medium to large palette

8-Jar for water

9-Rag(s) to wipe your brushes on

10-Optional: Some people like easels.  You don't need one to begin but if have one and want to use it, bring it along.  The first few classes really are an experiment to see what you like and you'll have the opportunity to paint on the floor or up against the wall.
